Best Utah Family Picture Locations – Spring
As a Utah family photographer part of my job is scouting the best locations for your family pictures. And let me tell you, Utah absolutely shows off during springtime! From gorgeous blossoms, to neutral salt flats, to greenhouses and beyond, I pride myself on finding the best backdrops to showcase your family.
Where you take your family pictures can influence the vibe and color scheme of your photos. This makes choosing the right location for you so important! That is why I send all the families I work with my Seasonal Location Guide. I created this guide to highlight the best family picture locations and what you can expect from each one during spring in Utah. In this resource you will find information on the right time of day to schedule your shoot, what scenery to expect, parking/fee information and what outfit colors will look best! Utah Capitol Cherry Blossoms | Family and Senior Pictures. I know it’s hard to believe with the absolutely bitter winter we’ve been having, but spring is right around the corner. Thank goodness! This means now is the time to contact your photographer for beautiful blossoms in your family or senior pictures.
The capitol in spring is absolutely stunning and a fan-favorite for a reason. The cherry blossoms provide the perfect backdrop for showcasing your beautiful family or letting your senior shine. Because the capitol blossoms are extremely popular, I typically shoot this location on weekday evenings to beat the crowds. When you reach out we will discuss times that typically work for your family so when the blossoms begin to bloom we are ready. Once the trees start flowering they typically last about two weeks and you’ll be glad you reached out early!
Timing the blossoms right can be stressful, but that doesn’t mean your session has to be! I provide prompts to help you feel confident in front of the camera and focus on capturing genuine moments that you will cherish for a long time.

Tibble Fork | Maternity Photographer. I love this Tibble Fork maternity session with the beautiful Falk family!
Tibble Fork is located about 15 minutes up American Fork Canyon and is stunning year-round. But during the winter? Wowza – it is the perfect wonderland! The pines and snowy reservoir provided a gorgeous backdrop to highlight this gorgeous mama-to-be. I loved helping Braidy & Matt capture striking images of this magical season of their life before they’re joined by baby boy in a few weeks! Their excitement was contagious and their love for each other was so sweet. I have no doubts they are going to be the best parents to their little guy.

As a mom, I know how quickly children grow and change. In fact, some days it feels like my babies are completely different than they were just last week!

I fully believe that any family that wants these moments captured, should be able to! I offer the option to have an In-home or natural light studio session. Each family has their own needs, and I am happy to be able to accommodate as best I can!
The Orgill Family was blessed to welcome a beautiful little boy after a very long wait and many heartbreaks to grow their family via adoption. I felt so blessed to be able to walk into their home, and capture this beautiful pure love!

Young Living Lavender Farm | Utah Family Photography
Young Living Lavender Farm | Utah Family Photography. As a Utah Resident, the Young Living Lavender Farm in Mona is a must see! The Lavender Fields are in bloom for a short period before they need to be cut. You can see the Lavender during the last week of June, and first two weeks of July. They are absolutely beautiful.
Each year I try to book a few spots at this stunning location. Young Living Lavender Farm does charge a fee to use their fields. This year they are charging $75 per hour to shoot there. I have worked that into my mini session pricing! If you’re interesting in book a mini, click here to book a lavender mini on July 7th!
One thing to know about this beautiful location is that it is wide open. To get beautiful well lit shots, we do have to have your session take place between 7-9pm. I know this can be hard for littles, but I promise it will be worth it! One of the great things about doing a mini session at the Young Living Lavender Farm is that they are quick, and perfect for young children’s attention span!

Family Photo Outfits Spring 2022 | Blues + Greens – When I saw this incredible Dusty Blue Floral dress, I couldn’t help but dream up a beautiful family session with this dress at the center! I always believe it is important for mom to pick her dress first. This dress is a perfect example of how much easier it is to pick moms dress, and then add then build the rest around her!
Color Scheme Tips
- Pick your outfit first! – Like I mentioned above, this is honestly the most important step! If you feel good, everyone will!
- Don’t be afraid to use things in your closest – You don’t need all new clothing. Look for shorts, pants, favorite girls dresses, and see what could coordinate.
- Pay attention to the colors in your home – You do not want to pick incredibly bold colors if your home does not have any.
- Add texture and patter – Some pattern is good, but too much is overwhelming. A way to add more interest to your family outfits is texture! Knitted items, ruffles, eyelet.
My best tip will always be to not stress! Grab something you love, and have fun building everyone else’s outfits!

Alpine Poppy Field | Utah Family Photographer. The Alpine Poppy Field blooms in late May/Early June! They only last for about 2-3 weeks depending on weather. You definitely want to get out to them before they are gone!
I absolutely love shooting here. The Alpine Poppy Field used to be a secret spot, but everyone knows all about them now! You will find a lot of people hiking and wandering these beautiful trails.
Audrey and her daughter have the sweetest relationship, and I really enjoyed spending time with them during their mini session.

Great Saltair Family Pictures | Utah Photographer
Great Saltair Family Pictures | Utah Photographer. Capturing Great Saltair Family Pictures is a must as Utah Photographer! The Great Saltair is located in Magna, UT near just behind the concert venue. We do have to always be mindful when scheduling your session that there is not an event happening there that evening. One of the things I adore about this location is how bright and WARM it photographs.
There is a beautiful venue just before you head out to the sand. This venue has darling arched walls, which is a fun spot to begin your session. I always enjoy getting a couple individual shots of children here!
Walking out the sand can be a little bit long depending on how far out you would like to go! The Great Saltair is quite large. If you walk out about 10 minutes, you will reach the lake, which also makes for beautiful images. The Hall Family had always pictured having photos done on the salty sand, so we did not bother heading out to the water!

Jordan Pines Maternity Pictures | Maternity Rental Dress. There is something magical about Jordan Pines Maternity pictures! Goodness, the scenic views you get up at Jordan Pines are really special. Jordan Pines Campground is located about 15 minutes up Big Cottonwood Canyon. You will find that this location is an absolute stunner during every season of the year, thanks to these beautiful pine trees.
Maternity Rental Dress
To add to these incredible views, Amanda decided to rent a gorgeous maternity gown. For many people, a maternity session feels like a luxury. Purchasing epic maternity gowns is pricey, and they only get used one time! I love sharing about Mama Bump Rentals because you are able to rent a beautiful dress without feeling badly about a dress that will get used once.
