Welcoming a new life into a home can be a bit overwhelming, while still being the greatest blessing. There are many families who would find the idea of not needing to prepare a few rooms in their home for a newborn session refreshing. For those families, a natural light studio is the way to go!

As a Draper Newborn Photographer, I have shot at numerous natural light studios in the Salt Lake, Davis and Utah Counties. I will be able to name studios that are in close proximity to your home, while also knowing what time are best for BEAUTIFUL light. Utah is lucky to have an abundance of natural light studios.
Simple
These studios are beautiful, and simplistic. Most of them have minimal furniture and very subtle wall treatments and colors. For many this is wonderful because they want the focus to be on their family and their newborn.

Spring Family Photos | Salt Lake Photographer. When it comes to Spring Family Photos, there are many lovely location options. Most people will immediately thing about going to a beautiful Orchard with beautiful blossoms. However, if you have lived in Salt Lake City, Utah for a long time, you may want something different! This beautiful spot is filled with the most gorgeous Olive trees. Not only is it stunning, but this location is easy to get to!
Things I love about this location
These Olive trees are the first thing that I love about this location. Having these Olive trees actually allows us to begin your session at an earlier time. The beautiful warm light that comes through the leaves gives a late spring/ early summer feel. After daylight savings, sunset is much later and this often conflicts with children’s bedtimes. I am always happy to have a location up my sleeves where we can begin a session a couple of hours before golden hour!

The Utah State Capitol Blossoms are every SLC Photographers dream. They are not only a photographers dream, but also incredibly famous. For the two weeks that these incredible blossoms are here, the Capitol grounds are filled with onlookers. When I think of a location that is the epitome of springtime in Utah, this is it!
Planning for your Utah State Capitol Blossoms Session
EXPECT TO A WEEKDAY OR EARLY MORNING SESSION
The capitol is extremely busy during the two weeks that these blossoms are in bloom. People from all over flock to the Capitol. Planning to do your session on a weeknight or early morning is the best idea to get a good spot, and be able to avoid huge crowds.
WHAT IS PARKING LIKE
Parking is busy! It is free, so you won’t have to worry about that! I would definitely plan to arrive 20 minutes before your session will begin to ensure that you have parking, and time to find your sessions spot.
WHERE IS THE UTAH STATE CAPITOL LOCATED
The cherry trees are around the whole property of the Utah State Capitol building. To find the capitol you will go to 350 State St, Salt Lake City, UT 84103.
WHEN WILL TE CAPITOL BLOSSOMS BLOOM
The Cherry blossoms usually bloom the first week of April. They last for about 2 weeks. A perfect way to hear firsthand when they are blooming is by following the Utah Capitol Instagram page.

Utah Cherry Blossoms Family Photography is a beautiful event. Each year, these beautiful blossoms bloom. Our state is incredibly beautiful and these blossoms are always magical for the short time they are here!
Important FAQs about Utah Cherry Blossom Photography
- This beautiful session was done up at Manning Orchard near Kaysville. This beautiful Orchard allows for photos to be done for a minimal fee of $35 dollars. Spots fill up fast here, so I always suggest that you plan ahead when hoping to book a session here. Blossoms usually come out mid April and last about 2-3 weeks.
- Be sure when booking your photographer that they know how to shoot in blossoms. Blossoms are incredible, and can be hard to capture correctly. Many people are unable to to keep the detail or visibility of the blossoms.
- There is only a short window for when blossoms will be beautiful and at their peak. Utah spring weather is always so unpredictable. If there is a storm during the few weeks that they have bloomed, some may be damaged and trees may be less full. The good news is, blossoms are ALWAYS incredible!

Herriman Hills Family Pictures | Lewis Family
Herriman Hills Family Pictures are some of my absolute favorite! These hills are all over the Herriman area, and are the perfect neutral background! These hills have a very similar look year-round, which is amazing with our Utah Seasons. What I love about Herriman Hills family pictures is that they allow your family to really pop! The light is beautiful, the background is simple which means your family is there to shine!
The Lewis family is so sweet. Baby boy liked to move, so we worked with him to capture some beautiful MOVEMENT. The Lewis Family knew how to have a good time together. Their tender relationship was truly the show stopper here.

Childhood Mini Session | White Space Studios
This Childhood Mini Session at the White Space Studios was absolutely darling! As a mom, I understand how fast your children grow. They change right before your eyes, and all you want is for time to stand still.
Childhood Mini Sessions are some of my absolute favorite to capture because they are quick, fun and warm! Children are cute no matter what they do and these short sessions allow me to capture their sweet smiles, little unique quirks and their individual personalities.
White Space Studios
The White Space Studios in Sandy is one of my favorite locations to do Childhood Mini Sessions. The studio is filled with gorgeous light an a beautiful peach brick wall. I also like to bring my seamless backdrop to add another fun option in capturing your beautiful kiddos.
If you time your family photos well, you could even get professional photos of your kids twice a year! I love timing these sessions close to Easter because all of the cute outfits are starting to come out in the stores. It’s a good excuse to throw on those cute spring outfits!

Extended Family Session | Draper Studio
I have known parts of The Anderson Family since about 2009. I have followed along on social media as their families have grown. When they contacted me to capture their Extended Family session over Christmas in Draper, UT.
While planning their session, we looked at a few studio options to find what would meet their needs and the aesthetic they were going for. We settled on The Life and Style Studio in Draper, UT. I am so glad we did, because the session turned out so beautiful, clean and bright. Something I love about a simple, plain background is that the family is truly the focus point.
11 Children Under 6 years old
Yes, you read that right! We had 11 children under the age of 6 years old for this beautiful extended family session. The studio was quite loud at points, but these parents let me take control and shake my booty. I am not afraid to do what it takes to get a good laugh out of a kid! What truly makes for a successful session is parents that allow their children to just be, and allow the photographer to take control. It’s hard to let go as a parent, but they did well and the result was lovely! Images that make a Grandparents heart soar!

Utah Extended Family Session
What can I say about the Tall Family, except that they are lovely. I have photographed a portion of the Tall Family in years past, and was lucky enough to photograph their extended family session. Yes, I said lucky!
Why Extended Family Sessions
Many shy away from extended family sessions, or even pretend to enjoy them. Personally, I enjoy them! There is something so satisfying about creating beautiful images that a Grandma can proudly hang on her wall.
How To Pick a Location
There are many ways to pick a location for an extended family session. Here are a couple of ideas; one that is easy for all parties to arrive on time at, one that is indoor or a location that means something special to you. Picking a location based on ease of location is a good thing to consider as typically a few children are involved and you don’t want to make a toddler sit through a long car ride just before a session. So sometimes its a better idea to pick something closer, and easier for all – than a dream location. You could also consider doing an indoor location like this one linked here. Lastly, this family choose a location that was special to them!
A location special to Grandma and Grandpa
Grandma and Grandpa Tall are moving to Utah to be closer to family and are building a beautiful home. They decided it would be special to do a session on the land where their new home would be built. This was such a fun idea, and it was an extra bonus that the land was gorgeous! Enjoy these special, beautiful moments. Especially these darling kiddos! These pictures will make you excited for your next extended family session!

BIG NEWS! Chelsea Frandsen Photography has relocated back to Utah! We have been away in Southern California for my husbands optometry schooling for the last 3.5 years. We have missed Utah dearly, and are excited that Bryan will be working in U
tah. Because of this, I am happy to say that Chelsea Frandsen Photography is now Salt Lake & Utah County based business again.
Update on our Family
To fill you in, this last year our family has grown. We had a baby girl, Eleanor Elaine Frandsen in March of 2020. She has been such a beautiful light in our little family. She greets us all with the biggest smiles you can imagine and has the sweetest spirit.
Greyson is 3 years old and the biggest, best brother ever. This year was a challenging one to say the least, and she has handled it all so well. We had a routine of different activities including twice weekly Disneyland Trips that all up ended in March, not just because we welcome Eleanor, but because of the pandemic. We needed to find new routines, and new activities to fill out time. We found the beaches to be the best place to brighten our days and fill our time with fun, sun and each other.
We have had a couple of sessions done at the beach while living away from Utah, but we decided that one last session to capture how much we had grown to love the beaches was just what we needed. I am so glad we have these special memories.
Back in Salt Lake & Utah County
We are excited to be back with old friends, family and to make new friends and connections. Chelsea Frandsen Photography is really excited to be serving the Salt Lake & Utah County for their Lifestyle Family, Newborn and Maternity needs. I am so ready to enjoy four beautiful seasons this year. What I am most looking forward to is capturing your families special moments. You guys. I’ve literally been. D.Y.I.N.G. to share these photos since September! but before you see how freaking perfect, emotional and gorgeous these photos are, you have to read all about the big reveal!
About Katie and Jordan
I received a message from the most darling girl, Katie Staples one morning. She had a plan to do an amazing pregnancy reveal to her husband, Jordan. All things baby and photo are my jam. I’m all about documenting every possible moment, and most certainly – the big ones! When Katie reached out for her Orange County pregnancy reveal, I knew we were going to have so much fun, and that we would get this beautiful moment captured the way she had envisioned!
Katie had lead Jordan to believe that she had already been feeling symptoms of her monthly cycle, and so he was completely clueless. They had just recently decided they wanted to grow their little family, and Katie was shocked and incredibly overjoyed to find out that she was pregnant. Obviously, Katie could not wait to tell Jordan! The original plan had us waiting to do the big reveal almost two weeks away! We quickly decided to abort that plan and make it happen as SOON as possible!
Katie is an amazing influencer. She’s all about design, style, and just honest goodness. You’ll certainly want to follow her! You can find her amazing content at Halfway Wholeistic. I bring this up because this leads into our “plan”.
The Plan
Jordan is used to Katie making plans for her blog that take them off onto fun adventures. She asked that I email her and ask to do a fun little photo collaboration that coming Saturday. She knew he wouldn’t even think anything of it, and would be along for the ride.
Naturally there NEEDED to be video of this joyous moment, so I offered to bring my backup camera and a tri-pod. Our plan was for me to tell Jordan that I needed some “behind the scenes” footage for myself and my families/couples to see how I interact with my clients on my website.
Finally we decided where we would meet and how she would tell him!
Here We Go!
Anticipation you guys. You know those butterflies you get before Christmas? Or the tingling feeling you get before holding a significant others hand for the first time? Thats how I felt leading up to this shoot. So I cannot even imagine how Katie girl felt! And there was Jordan, completely clueless. But not for long 🙂
While walking to the spot we’d begin our little Orange County Pregnancy Reveal, we chatted about them. They’re pretty much the cutest couple. Down to earth, sweet, easy to talk to and just good people.
We arrived at our spot and I began to setup the tripod for video. While setting up I realized “oh no! I needed the memory card that Katie had planned to hand to me when we arrived”. Quickly found a reason to ask Jordan to turn around. I asked him to kick some weeds down because they were in the way… Such a kind husband. He went right to it, and I gave a signal to Katie that we needed her memory card!!!
Once the video was rolling, we began shooting their little “couple” shoot for our “collab”. We got a few good poses in and I finally asked Jordan to turn around while Katie held onto him arm and we got to focus on her gorgeous face for a moment. He definitely didn’t mind. I quickly grabbed her handmade sign which had beautifully had written on it, “You’re going to be a daddy”. We took a few secretive shots……
The Reveal | Orange County Pregnancy Reveal
Finally Katie turned around and “tapped” Jordan on the shoulders. He turned around to look at her and found the sign before his eyes; “You’re gonna be a Daddy”! Moments later he was bent over in complete disbelief, shock and soon after, joy! Seconds later they were embracing. Seriously. SO BEAUTIFUL. I’m pretty sure I had a few tears coming out of my own eyes, because seriously you guys, it was too stinking perfect.
You guys. She had him completely stunned. He truly had no idea. Tricky girl had managed to really lead him to thinking and believing that she was not pregnant, without ever lying to him!
Jordan was stoked. Once everything had sunk in, he just wanted to know more. He was happy when he had arrived at the shoot, but man. The joy on his smiling face and in his eyes was just too good the rest of this Orange County pregnancy reveal session.
